INTRODUCTION

Sherwood and Myrtie Foster’s Home for Children was granted a child-placing license in 1974, extending its services to include placement of children in individual foster homes and providing adoptive services.

Hundreds of children each year need to be placed in homes where they can feel safe and secure, and can receive the care and nurturing that they are not currently receiving in their home environments. Many of these children do not qualify for our campus and ranch setting due to age or special individual needs.

Foster’s Home is always seeking loving homes to fill this need. If you are interested in providing a foster home for children, print and complete the application and mail to this address:

QUOTES FROM FOSTER PARENTS

The "Wonders" of being a Foster Parent.

By Cathy Bachhofer, Foster Parent

1. The beauty of your foster child not being too afraid to sleep through the night in his own bed.

2. The pride in watching him gain weight, grow inches taller and stand up straight to look you in the eye.

3. The emotions of overhearing him casually and securely refer to you as "My Mom and Dad" to a friend, long before he does to your face. And when he does finally let it slip to you, to watch the shy smile of hope come over his face, knowing he is accepted and okay here.

4. The thrill of the first time he forgets he doesn’t have to battle anyone anymore and he enjoys an entire day, or even an hour, or a minute without struggling against you.

5. The joy of hearing him lift his voice in song to God for the first time, or when he says "I know that story" during Bible study, and he really does.

"Parenting is the hardest, most under-appreciated job in the world that gives you the greatest joys and sorrows you will ever know as payment. The only difference for foster parents is the joy of introducing children to God, who might never even know His name—and getting to experience that over and over again."

Quote – Isaac & Shelly Rickel:

"We went into foster care as a ministry. We feel there’s no greater way to show God’s love than to care for his children who are hurting and need someone to love and take care of them."

Quote – David & April Presley:

"What will take you by surprise the most is the blessing you receive in return."

Residential group care

is offered in seven homes on the Stephenville campus.  Up to eight children live in a home, along with a staff couple and their family.  The home is structured as much like a family as possible, with emphasis placed on the child learning responsibility for his/her own behavior.
Children in care attend the Stephenville public school system.  Intensive individualized and group instruction is also offered two evenings a week on campus by Masters-level teachers as part of our Achievers Program.
